生野 Ikuno

生野 Ikuno (Hyougo). 2001/10

Ikuno was one of towns near old silver mine. Like old gold mine in Sado Island, Ikuno silver mine was very famous in old days. So this area was governed by Edo bakuhu (such area was called "Tenryo")and later govened by Maiji government and belonged to Emperor's fortune. In 1899, it was sold to Mitsui and it still owns these area. This silver is perfectly used and now there is a thema park which shows how people used this mine.

The pole with yellow decoration is used for autumn festival in this area.
The person who was in the Ikuno station was kind
and told us about the festival in this area when we waited for the train.

People can use bus when they go to the silver mine thema park,
but when we visited Ikuno, the bus is 1:30 around and 5:00.
So we chose to walk.
It is 4km to go there, and we enjoyed walking.

This is one of the entrances (ruin) which was used in Edo period.
In those days people digged with their hands and tools
(but not maschines like nowadays.)

An old guidepost. Or gardean of the direction?

The gate of the silver mine themapark.
Can you see the chrysanthemum mark on the gate?
It is a mark of "ownered by govenment" or "ownered by emperor".

The exist gate of mine...
It takes about 50 minutes to wander in the mine.
There are dolls which one can see how people dig silver mine
in old days and nowadays.

Prople broke silver stone into pieces to melt and get more pure silver.
What I felt funny is that these dolls had western people's face, not Asian face.

There were houses for govenment worker connected with mine
and people remade this wall recent days.
